Mayor Wheat lives a life of public and community service.

Those who know Laura know that she lives to serve others and has done so for most of her adult life.  Of course, for the past eight years, she has served the Town of Westlake as Mayor and Westlake Academy as President of the Board of Trustees.  Her community involvement, however, does not stop there.  She currently serves as:

  • Chairman of the Board of JPS Hospital Foundation;
  • Vice-Chair of Texas Health Resources Hospital – Alliance 
  • Chair of the Development Committee of The Gladney Center for Adoption; and
  • A member of the Executive Committee of the North Texas Council of Governments 

Past chairmanships include:  

  • Ronald McDonald House of Dallas
  • St. Philip’s School and Community Center
  • Cancer Support Community North Texas 

In addition, Mayor Wheat has co-chaired Cancer Support Community - National and the Westlake Academy Arts & Sciences Center capital campaign. 

President George W. Bush has recognized Laura for her commitment to service, and she has received numerous other awards and accolades.
